"Hollyleaf?"
Creamflower poked her head into the medicine cat's den, hoping no other cats were already in there talking to Hollyleaf. She wanted to talk about the headaches she had been getting, most recently during a border patrol. For some reason, they had been coming on most often when she was in the vicinity of her lifelong friend Snowpelt. There it was again, that niggling doubt of her past. Had Snowpelt really been her friend for her whole life? A flash of a memory in which there were no deaf white cats to be found darted through her mind, but was gone as soon as it had come.
((OOC: Holly, these are the headaches from the original story. You know what the diagnosis is.))

Hollyleaf padded over to where Creamflower was. "What is it?" she asked. "You're not hurt, are you? And I don't smell any sickness. Did something happen?" The medicine cat was genuinely worried. Although she had been rather bored lately, it was a good boredom when no cat was in trouble.
((OOC: The headaches from the original story?! So you do mean for it to work out that way? I thought you'd mostly given up on the original story.))

Creamflower meowed, "I've been having these headaches. For some reason, they always seem to come on while I'm around Snowpelt, and they go away when he leaves. Do you have any idea what's going on?" Creamflower knew Snowpelt quite well. There was no chance that he would do anything to deliberately cause her headaches, but she couldn't imagine what was really bringing them on. She hoped the medicine cat would have some ideas.

Hollyleaf looked Creamflower over critically. "You don't seem to be really sick, that I can tell," she meowed briskly. Just to be on the safe side, she checked the warrior over thoroughly. "Well," she meowed when she was done, "I think I know exactly what's wrong."

"What's wrong with me?" Creamflower meowed at once. "Is it going to stop me from being a warrior? Is it dangerous?" She was worried, having been living on edge for days. The young pink-cream warrior couldn't really be blamed for being a bit anxious. Why did she have these headaches, anyway? The truth was about to come out.

Hollyleaf looked at Creamflower, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, yes," she meowed. "It's very dangerous. Actually, it's the most dangerous thing in the world. And it may or may not stop you from becoming a warrior. It depends on what happens next." The medicine cat was being uncharacteristically cruel, but she knew Creamflower very well. The young warrior wasn't quite so high-strung as to go into a panic and trash the camp. Creamflower could handle a bit of teasing now and again. Besides, Hollyleaf saw this as a sort of playful payback to the cat who had, some moons before, annihilated half the medicine cat's stores.

"Then what IS it?" Creamflower nearly yowled, fear setting in. What was the medicine cat doing? The young warrior was too worried to see the playful sparkle in Hollyleaf's eyes. If she had, she might have recognized a joke. Then again, this was revenge.

At last, Hollyleaf relented. "It's love," she explained. "You're hopelessly in love with Snowpelt. Most cats don't feel it this way, but occasionally it will happen. You won't die from being in love, but it is rather hard to be a warrior if you're a queen. Do you understand now?"

At the medicine cat's words, a knot of metaphorical brambles in Creamflower's chest untangled itself, and the feelings she had trapped behind it for so long flooded through her mind. For the first time in her life, she consciously realized that she was truly in love with Snowpelt, intensely enough that it hurt when she couldn't have it. "I... I do love Snowpelt," she meowed softly.

"Good," meowed Hollyleaf. "The headaches should stop, now that you aren't denying yourself that knowledge. And now it's up to you, what you will do about it." She turned away, businesslike, to get back to the everyday work of keeping her herbs fresh and in order. She herself had had similar headaches once, as she had fought for her dream of becoming a warrior. The day young Hollypaw had gotten her first major injury and looked around in the medicine cat's den, the dreams withered away in importance and she realized she belonged here. Now, the medicine cat couldn't imagine being anything else but the cat who healed wounds, who tended to the sick, and who even the leader often deferred to. Yes, life was good here. Even if she did fall in love, which she couldn't imagine doing, Hollyleaf was certain that the pull that her path of healing held for her would be stronger. What can you love more than being mother, friend, healer, and advisor to every cat you meet?

"Thank you, Hollyleaf," meowed Creamflower, although she wasn't entirely sure the medicine cat was really paying attention anymore. She bounded out of the den. If she was to choose what to do about her feelings, she might as well get to deciding. Maybe if she thought about it over a nice vole, she might come to the right conclusion...
OOC: Ha-ha, I stole Cinderpelt's lunch! (That wasn't quite completely random. It's a reference to a weird pattern I've found in the Warriors series: Cinderpelt+vole=plot development.)
