It's important for a medicine cat to know his or her herbs. Here we have some of the important treatments for common illnesses that might come up. It was adapted from an article at www.warriorswish.net from which I also adapted this advice: If your real-life cat is sick, then for pete's sake TAKE HIM TO A QUALIFIED VET! Same goes for humans, only they should go to a DOCTOR!
Herb Name: Poppy Seed
Stored: In dried poppy heads
Treats: Pain
Directions: Feed a cat in pain 1-3 poppy seeds, depending on the severity of the pain. It should reduce the pain to a tolerable level. Don't deaden the pain completely, as pain can be a useful indicator of the patient's physical condition.
Herb Name: Burdock Root
Stored: In whole roots
Treats: Rat bites and other infections
Directions: Chew burdock root to a pulp, and apply the mess to the wound. Advise the patient to rest.
Herb Name: Cobwebs
Stored: In great webby masses
Treats: Bleeding
Directions: Gather a swathe of cobweb and apply to wound. Keep it there until the bleeding has completely stopped. Even if blood soaks through, it will staunch the flow.
Herb Name: Mousebile
Stored: Moss is soaked in it and stored for further use.
Treats: Ticks
Directions: Use paws to press wet moss onto the ticks. Repeat as necessary. When finished, dispose of used bile and wash paws in a stream or river, NOT the normal method by tongue.

Stored: Leaves stored whole
Treats: Infection
Directions: Chew leaves, apply pulp to infected sore.
