Warrior names might seem confusing at first glance, but they're actually very easy. Let's break this down by steps.
Step 1: Prefix. A warrior's prefix describes something about them, such as "White-" or "Snow-" for a white cat, "Leaping-" or "Flying-" for an energetic cat. It could also be a certain marking. For example, my original character is "Golden-" for the color of her claws, although it could have been "Silver-" for her base color or "Blue-" for her stripes. There are some restrictions on prefixes, however: No names starting with "Star-" for reasons discussed later, no "Moon-" because the moon is considered sacred by Clan cats, and nothing named after things that you wouldn't expect a cat to know about, which means no "Dragon-", "Mirror-", "Panda-", or anything like that.
Step 2: Kit name. When kits are first born, they are given a name ending in "-kit," such as Creamkit. That particular cat was born with cream-colored fur. SUFFIX NOTE: All suffixes, unlike the names of the Clans, begin with a lowercase letter. Also, if your suffix begins with the same letter as your prefix ends with, say a kit whose name starts with "Black-," you should put a hyphen between the first and last part, so you could write "Black-kit" or "Snow-whisker."
Step 3: Apprentice name. A kit who reaches 6 moons is assigned a mentor and has their suffix changed to "-paw." When she reached the proper age, Creamkit became Creampaw and started performing apprentice duties, like caring for the elders and learning to hunt and fight.
Step 4: Warrior ceremony. Once the apprentice has finished apprentice training, they will be called up by the Clan leader to receive a warrior name in a ceremony. Warrior names most commonly end in "-fur," "-pelt," "-heart," "-tail," or "-claw," such as "Creamheart," but sometimes they end in suffixes like "-flower," "-pool," "-feather," or "-whisker," for example, "Creamflower." Queens, medicine cats, deputies, and elders retain their warrior names.
Step 5: Leader (for a very select few). When a leader dies, the deputy will travel to the Moonstone to receive a leader name from StarClan. No other cat knows what goes on in the ceremony, which is completely secret and leaders are bound not to say anything about what happens there to any other cat. What every cat knows, however, is that they go to the Moonstone as ordinary warriors, and return with nine lives and a name ending in "-star." That is why "Star-" prefixes are not allowed- imagine if there was a cat named Starstar! They'd be laughed out of the forest for redundancy.
